We hope you can join us for our Sixth Annual Suke Strong Golf Tournament and Silent Auction in support of the Joan Sucher Benefit Fund and the Fight Against ALS.
We cannot believe it has been six years since mom was diagnosed with Lou Gehrig’s Disease. At the time, we met that phrase with shock and denial, anger and sadness and a whole boatload of fear. It was life changing for all of us. In coming to terms with the new normal, we grew to accept the inevitable and found comfort believing that the mourning was in the diagnosis. A tremendous amount of life has been lived and memories made in that time only because of her perseverance and determination to not be defined by those words. And that was a treasured gift she gave to each of us. If she could choose joy, so must we. We got this. And we did.
However, as it turns out, the partner to that bookend is pretty lousy, too. Mom is tired. Her spirit is willing, but her body is not. And so returns the anger and sadness along with occasional bitterness and uncertainty. But, accompanying them are resolute feelings of pride, strength and awe. As we all find ourselves again rationalizing the future, one thing is clear… to do anything but persevere and choose joy, would be an insult to Joan Sucher. As she has, so will we. We got this. And we will.
With that said, we look forward to celebrating life with you in September. Our mission will be evolving as our focus turns to more robust efforts to help others embrace the challenges of their own neuromuscular disease. On September 29, we will be back at the newly renovated and absolutely gorgeous Bogey Hills Country Club for a day of friendly competition, spirited story-telling and lots of laughter and fun.
Please find the attached forms for golf and dinner auction registration as well as opportunities for tournament sponsorships and item donations. The event has a history of filling quickly so we encourage you to send in your information as soon as possible.
On another note, the Walk to Defeat ALS is again in Forest Park on Saturday, June 23. Although unlikely we will be there as an organized group, we encourage you to walk in mom’s name, if your schedule allows. It is a remarkable day that will leave you moved and empowered to be your best self.
Grateful for your place in our lives…

Thank you so much for your continued support for the Suke Strong Fight Against ALS. The golf tournament in September is officially full. If you missed the cut this year but had intended to play, please let us know as if someone needs to back out, we can plug you into their spot. As always, we would still love to see you at the dinner auction that evening at the St. Charles Convention Center. Registration will remain open for this portion of the event until two weeks prior, September 16.
Thank you again for walking this road with all of us. We continue to be humbled and grateful.
